Mapping IIUM Students’ English Language Writing Proficiency to CEFR

The goal of this research was to determine the English language writing skills International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) graduating undergraduates based on two linguistic levels; IIUM Proficiency Test (EPT) and Common European Framework Reference for Languages (CEFR), descriptors: IIUM’s EPT descriptor, CEFR’s ‘General range’ descriptor (Council Europe, 2001, p 110). results show that majority (48 %) were in Band 6, while 5.5, 5 4, respectively, ranked 31.3%, 4.9% 0.4%. On other hand, 8, 7 6.5 attained by 0.2%, 2.4% 12.2% undergraduates. A significant proportion (46.3 found be at Level B2 + when assessed against CEFR scale range.’ At same time, 2.2%, 12.4%, 33.9 5.2% students C2, C1, B2, B1 +, respectively. also showed a mere 0.2% B1. This despite some inaccuracies improper uses, could write effectively understand use reasonably complicated language, particularly familiar situations. Based range’, study clearly articulate themselves their writing.
